President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced on March 15 that he met with Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi, Deputy Commander-in-Chief Vadym Sukharevskyi, Chief of the General Staff Anatolii Barhylevych, Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, and Director of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU).
President Zelensky discussed the decisions with General Syrskyi upon the commander-in-chief’s return from the frontline city of Avdiivka, where the Russian army continues to concentrate its main efforts on making a breakthrough near the captured settlements
Mr. Zelensky stated that Ukraine has discovered Russia’s `weakest point` and this `weakness` will be targeted by Ukrainian forces to cause `the most serious damage` to Moscow.
`The more Russia loses, the higher the price to pay for its aggression, the closer this war will come to an end,` Mr. Zelensky declared.
President Zelensky also said he met with representatives of the defense industry, government and other organizations to discuss the production of drones with advanced technology to serve combat operations.
`We have such weapons in Ukraine, but they need to have a longer range, larger numbers and more power,` Mr. Zelensky said, claiming there was no Russian attack.
Drones have proven useful to both sides in the Ukraine conflict, with Russian and Ukrainian forces using inexpensive and commercially available drones to attack ground troops.
Russia has extensively used Lancet suicide drones to destroy Ukrainian armor, while Ukraine’s Western-supplied drones have allowed Kiev to strike Russian targets.
Experts say that new generation drones will not be able to completely meet Ukraine’s need for artillery shells, but they can somewhat reduce this shortage.
British officials are working with the US to acquire technology to develop drones integrated with artificial intelligence (AI) to aid Ukraine.
The latest meeting between President Zelensky and senior commanders took place in the context of Russia’s alleged launch of an Iskander-M ballistic missile into the city of Odessa on March 15.
According to Ukrainian officials, two Iskander-M missiles fired from the Russian-controlled Crimean peninsula damaged civilian infrastructure as well as electricity and gas lines in the southern city.
Previously, Russia also attacked Odessa on March 5 when President Volodymyr Zelensky met Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
